Join us at the World, along with over 150 theaters across the country, for a screening of 1984. On Tuesday, April 4th at 7pm.

This date was chosen because it’s the day George Orwell’s protagonist Winston Smith begins rebelling against his oppressive government by keeping a forbidden diary. Participants in this event strongly believe in supporting the NEA and the NEH and see any attempt to scuttle these programs as an attack on free speech and creative expression through entertainment. This event provides a chance for communities around the country to show their unity and have their voices heard.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with a panel of professionals from our community about the importance of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities in our community:

Lorna Bracewell – Assistant Professor of Political Science at UNK, Former performing artist and CEO of Braced Well Music.

Judi Sickler – Executive Director of the Kearney Area Community Foundation. KACF manages more than $16.5 million in assets and oversees 200+ funds.

Mark Foradori – Marketing Coordinator at Kearney Archway, previous director at MONA, former President of Kearney Area Arts Council.

Brette Ensz – Assistant Director of UNK’s First Year Program, Kearney Community Theatre Board Member & Volunteer, Former Executive Director of the North Platte Community Playhouse, and UNK Musical Theatre graduate.

Judy Rozema (tentative) – Executive Director of Kearney Community Theatre, former KPS music specialist and UNK Adjunct Faculty
 
Marian Fey – Executive Director of the Nebraska Cultural Endowment where she travels the state raising support and advocating for the Nebraska Arts Council and Humanities Nebraska. She has worked in the non-profit sector for nearly 15 years, primarily in the arts.
